I found a while back a epson drive that had been modified to allow it to allow to install the epson perfection 1240u on Vista 64.I'm USING it right now and works great on W7 64 bit but is for U.S. Its called EPSON_PERFECTION_1240U_VISTA_x64_DRIVER_-_US_ONLY. I understand the other fixes that have been listed here, but really - shouldn't it just 'work'. This is Windows 7, and you can't install a scanner?????? So I happened to have a Ubuntu installation on another disk, which I am new to. Fired it up, Applications, Graphics, Simple Scan. And it scanned, I didn't even have to configure a thing, gave me a choice of file types and destinations.
